Medicare Supplement Insurance

Medicare Supplement Insurance, also known as Medigap, is a type of private insurance that helps pay for healthcare costs not covered by Original Medicare (Parts A and B). These costs can include copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.

Medigap policies are sold by private insurance companies and are designed to work alongside your Original Medicare coverage, not replace it.

Key Features:

  • Helps cover out-of-pocket expenses left by Medicare

  • Let’s you see any doctor that accepts Medicare—no networks

  • Guaranteed renewable, even if your health changes

  • Policies are standardized into lettered plans (like Plan G, Plan N, etc.)

Important to Know:

  • You must be enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B to purchase a Medigap plan

  • Medigap does not cover prescription drugs—you’ll need a separate Part D plan for that

  • Only one person per Medigap policy (spouses must buy separate policies)
